Violations of Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
The rules are very specific regarding how Debt Collectors can pursue money they are owed. There are a number of these collectors that don't follow the rules. If you are harassed in any way by a debt collector, you may be able to seek damages for their violations. Federal law mandates that a successful lawsuit that is brought against a debt collector that has broken the rules is $1,000 per violation of the FDCPA and they will be forced to pay for your attorney's fees.

- Contact family members or family.
- Failing to give certain statutory notices that are required by the FDCPA.
- Threatening to sue you on a debt that has passed the statute of limitations.
- Threatening to take actions which are not legally available to the debt collector.
- Requiring you to defend a lawsuit in a county where you do not reside.
